The advent of this event in New York heralds a change in
attitudes to full figure fashions for plus size girls
around the globe.
One of the aims of this week was to highlight the voice of
plus women who wish to shop at normal stores.
Sharon Quinn, the original curvy runway diva, quoted as
saying that "the public would have you believe that we don't
shop".
With plus size women spending an estimates $60 billion on
clothing alone, that's one big market and a pretty loud voice,
which it's hoped retailers and designers will start to listen
to.
This fashion extravaganza is, unusually, open to plus size
fashion enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes, with boutique
owners, emerging designers, models and style gurus mixing
together under one roof.
So, girls, it's time to demand more from retailers - write
to your high street store, or the big stores in your city to
ask them to stock wider ranges of clothes in plus sizes.
Ask designers to create clothing not only to fit, but to
flatter, your body and make the most of your curves.
Most of all, go to the Fashion Week website and book your
place(s) for the next event - check out the discounts if you
take a group of curvy friends along with you!
